A review by Trevor Hensley
Generally I really enjoyed it
The two bands from Bulgaria were "interesting"
I had been told that BTR were a "Heep like" band but when they started playing Whisky in the Jar, that myth was dispelled a little, they were good though and the Bulgarians in the audience certainly enjoyed them
The Band that opened were called Jango Z and they were OK but again they did quite a few covers and their version of the Beatles Come Together was the longest one I've ever heard
John Lawton's Band was excellent, I am lucky having heard the album before, so I had an idea what to expect and I wasn't disppointed
When I spoke to the fans who were there they also enjoyed things a lot
I really enjoyed my slot and it is great to have the opportunity to play venues like that in front of audiences who enjoy their music
The highlight for me was the duo with John when we did How Soon, the song has special meaning and to sing it John doing harmonies was wonderful
We were very different to anything else on the night and the crowd seemed to enjoy themselves so that is rewarding
My guitarist John Wright is an excellent player and he really got me out of a hole when my guitar started playing up for the last song, a good player a nice guy and now a member of the singer rescue club!
Regards
Trevor
