URIAH HEEP LIVE IN SINGAPORE
| September 6, 2002 | Fort Canning | Singapore |
Highlights in one's lifetime do not happen all
that often.Special
times, such as the birth of your children, wedding day,you know....
I was born in Canada and just happened to move in next door to Bernie Shaw
in 1960.We played together like brothers for years, even dressed up for a local Hippy contest one day in 1967 at the local park, posing for
photos,Bernie of course had his old guitar in hand.
We finished school ,Bernie left for London and I headed to the land
downunder where I lived for about 16 years before moving to Singapore.I was always on the lookout for the boys touring in Australia but this did
not happen so it was recently while on the way to work,I heard that Uriah Heep were coming to town.of all places Singapore !!
After surprising Bernie at the bands hotel and having some time to catch
up ,on came the day of the show.
The place,Fort Canning Park, located near the city's centre and suitably
located at Fort Canning is the Battle Box,which was Singapore's largest
underground military operations complex during WWII.This is where the top
brass of the day (Feb 15,1942) decided to surrender Singapore to the
Japanese.
Let me tell you that Singapore surrendered again, this time to Mick Box and
Uriah Heep.
The boys played like they were possessed. The croud numbered up to 3,000 but you could have been mistaken for having 30,000 there.
Every song, every minute in the sweltering heat was played with shear
intensity and the croud loved every second.
It was for me one of those times in life, when it was nothing short of
unbelievable and will remain in that special place of great memories.
I told Bernie later, that the show was better than when I saw Zepplin in
72'.and that was dammed good.So keep on Rockin ,every one of you !
I will make a point of travelling somewhere in the world to see the boys
again.
